Alternative Transportation Options:

There are taxis available outside of the airport which will take cash or card and typically will charge between EUR 150 -200.

If you are staying in a hotel in the Amalfi Coast, most will help you arrange an airport car pickup ahead of time if you call and request.

Notes on Rental Cars:

We do not advise renting a car and driving yourself to the Amalfi Coast.

However, before or after your time on the Amalfi Coast, renting a car can be a great option to go explore other areas of Italy. You can pick up a car at the Naples airport and drive to other destinations very easily. We would just recommend dropping the car off once you arrive to a major city, as ancient cities and tight roads are not great for cars. Tuscany however, we highly recommend having a car. Jase and I have explored Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, and Lake Como by rental car all in one trip before (entire south to north Italy). It is very doable!

Naples Airport.

The closest and recommended airport to fly into is Naples which is a 1 hour to 1.5 hour drive to the Amalfi Coast.

The flight is about 8 hours and you really can’t go wrong with any of the airlines offered. Flights increase as peak season gets closer, so we recommend booking sooner than later.

Note: You pass Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius on the way to the coast if this is a destination you are interested in visiting!

Pro Tip: Pack backup clothes and toiletries in a carry on just in case luggage gets lost or delayed. Italians are not in as big of a hurry as Americans about lost baggage.

Rome Airport.

Rome is another potential airport to fly into. It’s a great option if you are already spending some time in Italy before the wedding, or find a much cheaper flight option, but keep in mind it is about a 3.5 to 4 hour drive to the Amalfi Coast by car. If coming from Rome, we’d recommend taking the train from Rome to Naples and then car transfer to the coast or hopping on the ferry or SITA bus to Amalfi or Positano. There is also a one way bus that leaves at 7am in Rome and arrives in Positano around noon. It’s all doable, but just a lot more work and the fees of transport may outweigh the cost savings in flight in the long run.
